The Forge is a special level that appears in NetHack: The Next Generation and SlashTHEM. It is the home of the blacksmith Duri, a unique monster who can forge selected artifact weapons for you, though the prices are suitably hefty depending on the chosen artifact.

NetHack: The Next Generation

In NetHack: The Next Generation, the Forge has an 80% chance of being generated, and may generate anywhere from levels 15 to 19 within the Dungeons of Doom.

The following artifacts can be crafted by Duri; their base prices are listed below, with the exact prices dependent on your customizations.

SlashTHEM

In SlashTHEM, the Forge is located on level 20, and has a 50% chance of being generated.
