In SLASH'EM, the Archeologist is one of the roles available to the hero.

Archeologists can be of lawful or neutral alignment, and can be a human, dwarf, gnome, doppelganger, elf, or hobbit.

Archeologists start with Basic skill level in whips, pick-axes and slings (since touchstones are classed with other sling ammo), along with Basic skill in either matter or divination spells depending on the starting spellbook.

Techniques

Archeologists can learn the disarm technique by reaching Skilled in any weapon, and also gain the following techniques:[7]

Special rules

Archeologists can apply uncursed touchstones as if they were blessed to formally identify any gem.

Archeologists suffer a −1 penalty to alignment record for breaking a historic statue.

Non-chaotic archeologists suffer a −3 penalty to alignment record for digging up a headstone, while chaotic archeologists get a +3 bonus for doing the game.

A fedora worn by an Archeologist gives a +1 charisma bonus and acts as a luckstone.

The status line shows you to be one of the following ranks when you reach the specified experience level:[8]

Quest

Main article: Archeologist quest

The Archeologist quest sees an Archeologist fight The Minion of Huhetotl for The Orb of Detection, an artifact crystal ball. While carried, it confers magic resistance, telepathy and half spell damage, and can be invoked to toggle invisibility on or off.
