Gauntlets are a type of gloves that appear in EvilHack and Hack'EM. Their base object material is iron, and they have a randomized appearance when unidentified.

Generation

All Knights that are not elven or drow begin the game with a pair of +0 gauntlets that may be blessed; elven Knights will be given leather gloves instead, while drow Knights are given dark elven gloves. Barbarians, Knights, Monks, Samurai, and Valkyries start the game with knowledge of a pair of gauntlets' randomized appearance.

Gauntlets can appear in the preset kits of various player monsters and racial monsters, particularly centaur and giant ones, and can also generate in the kits of NPC monks.

Gauntlets can be created at a forge by combining a mace and a helmet.

Hack'EM

In Hack'EM, leather gloves can be upgraded into gauntlets, and upgrading gauntlets of swimming, gauntlets of dexterity, gauntlets of protection, gauntlets of power, or gauntlets of fumbling will also produce gauntlets.

Description

When worn, gauntlets grant at least 1 point of AC and possibly more depending on their specific material.

Gauntlets can be combined with other items at a forge to make the following:

Hack'EM

In Hack'EM, gauntlets can also be upgraded to create gauntlets of swimming, gauntlets of dexterity, gauntlets of protection, or gauntlets of power, with an equal chance of each.

Strategy

Plain gauntlets are usually not susceptible to burning and rotting unlike leather gloves, unless the gauntlets are made of bone or wood - metallic gauntlets will also interfere with spellcasting, making those in particular more ideal for martial-focused roles and other builds that are not as reliant on casting around hostile monsters.

Encyclopedia entry
