The dot (or period or full stop), ".", character is used in NetHack for several purposes:
- The rest command.
- To represent empty dungeon floor (.), and ice (.).
- To represent venom in the animation of it being spat.
Press . when asked for a direction, such as when zapping a wand, to direct your action at yourself.
