There are several messages starting with You feel that are associated with various features and attributes of NetHack.
Intrinsic feelings
The following are associated with an intrinsic:
Aggravate monster
- You feel that monsters are aware of your presence.
- A nearby monster has cast the aggravate monster spell.
- You feel that eating <creature> was a bad idea.
- You gained the intrinsic by eating a cat or dog.
- You feel less attractive.
- You lost the intrinsic due to a gremlin attack.
Disintegration resistance
- You feel very firm.
- You gained disintegration resistance from eating an appropriate corpse, e.g. that of a black dragon.
- You feel totally together, man.
- As above, while hallucinating.
Warning
- You feel sensitive!
- You gained the warning intrinsic after reaching the appropriate experience level (i.e. XL 7 as a Monk, or XL 15 as a Caveman, Healer, Priest, or Wizard), or else eating a ring of warning.
- You feel less sensitive!
- You lost the intrinsic due to level drain.
Poison resistance
- You feel healthy.
- You acquired poison resistance from reaching XL 3 as a Monk, or from eating an appropriate corpse (e.g. quasit, killer bee), amulet or ring; the former will add an exclamation point.
- You feel especially healthy.
- As above, but you had extrinsic poison resistance from another worn object.
- You feel hardy!
- You reached XL 20 as a Tourist.
- You feel a little sick!
- You lost the intrinsic due to level drain or a gremlin attack.
Fire resistance
- You feel a momentary chill.
- You gained the fire resistance intrinsic from eating an appropriate corpse or ring.
- You be chillin'.
- As above, while hallucinating.
- You feel cool!
- You gained the intrinsic by reaching XL 11 as a Monk, or XL 20 as a Priest.)
- You feel warmer.
- You lost the intrinsic due a to a gremlin attack or level drain (which adds an exclamation point).
- You don't feel hot!
- You were hit by a ray of fire (e.g. hell hound, wand of fire) with fire resistance.
- The fire doesn't feel hot!
- You were hit by a monster's fire-element melee fire attack (e.g. fire ant) with fire resistance.
- You feel rather warm.
- You zapped yourself with a ray from a wand of fire or fire horn with fire resistance.
- You feel mildly warm.
- You were hit with a passive fire attack (e.g. red mold) with fire resistance.
- You feel mildly hot.
- A monster engulfing you tried to do fire damage (e.g. steam vortex), but you have fire resistance.
- You're enveloped in flames. But you resist the effects.
- You were hit by a monster's fire spell (i.e. fire vampire in SLASH'EM) with fire resistance.
- It seems quite tasty.
- You quaffed scalding hot water from a sink with fire resistance.
- You are hit by molten lava.
- A nearby boulder falling into lava splashes it on you, but you have fire resistance. Without resistance this message has an exclamation mark instead.
- Oh look, what a pretty fire in your <hands>.
- You read a scroll of fire while confused, and you have fire resistance.
- You feel a pleasant warmth in your <hands>.
- As above while blind.
- You aren't hurt!
- Something in your inventory being destroyed (e.g. wand destroyed by lightning) does fire damage, but you have fire resistance.
Cold resistance
- You feel full of hot air.
- You gained the cold resistance intrinsic from eating the appropriate corpse (e.g. winter wolf, yeti) or ring.
- You feel warm!
- You gainted the intrinsic by reaching XL 13 as a Monk.
- You feel cooler.
- You lost the intrinsic to a gremlin attack; being level drained below XL 13 as a monk will add an exclamation point.
- You don't feel cold.
- You were hit by a ray of cold (e.g. winter wolf, wand of cold) with cold resistance.
- The frost doesn't seem cold!
- You were hit by a monster's cold-element melee attack (e.g. the touch attack of liches) with cold resistance.
- You feel a little chill.
- You zapped yourself with a ray of cold with cold resistance.
- You feel a mild chill.
- You were hit by a passive cold attack (e.g. blue jelly) with cold resistance.
- You feel mildly chilly.
- A monster engulfing you dealt cold damage (i.e. ice vortex), but you have cold resistance.
- You're covered in frost. But you resist the effects.
- You were hit by a monster's cold spell (i.e. Asmodeus) with cold resistance.
Sleep resistance
- You feel wide awake.
- You gained the sleep resistance intrinsic from eating the appropriate corpse (e.g. any kind of elf).
- You feel awake!
- You gained the intrinsic by reaching XL 4 as an elf.
- You feel tired!
- You lost the intrinsic due to level drain or a gremlin attack; this is not to be confused with the same message from a magic trap.
Shock resistance
- Your health currently feels amplified!
- You gained the shock resistance intrinsic from eating the appropriate corpse (e.g. electric eel, storm giant) or ring.
- You feel grounded in reality.
- As above while hallucinating.
- You feel insulated!
- You gained the intrinsic by reaching XL 15 as a Monk.
- You feel conductive!
- You lost the intrinsic due to a gremlin attack or level drain.
- You feel a mild tingle.
- You were hit shock damage from a passive attack or engulfing monster (e.g. energy vortex) with shock resistance.
Invisible
- You permanently gained the invisibility intrinsic by eating a stalker corpse while already (temporarily) invisible.
See invisible
Quaffing from a fountain
- You see an image of someone stalking you. (non-blind)
- You feel transparent (blind, visible)
- You feel very self-conscious (blind, invisible)
Sitting on a throne
- Your vision becomes clear
Intrinsic lost messages
- You thought you saw something! (normal)
- You tawt you taw a puttie tat! (hallucinating)
Protection
- You feel vulnerable (lost intrinsic)
Searching
- You feel perceptive!
Speed
- You feel quick!
- You feel slow! (level drain loss)
Teleportitis
- You feel very jumpy
- You feel diffuse (hallucinating)
- You feel less jumpy (lost intrinsic)
Teleport control
- You feel in control of yourself
- You feel centered in your personal space (hallucinating)
- You feel less jumpy (lost intrinsic)
Telepathy
- You feel in touch with the cosmos (hallucinating)
- You feel a strange mental acuity
The following are associated with attributes and player traits:
Strength
- You feel strong! You must have been exercising.
- You feel very strong!
- You feel weak! You must have been abusing your body.
Dexterity
- You feel agile! You must have been working on your reflexes.
- You feel clumsy! You haven't been working on reflexes lately.
Constitution
- You feel tough! You must be leading a healthy life-style.
- You feel fragile! You haven't been watching your health.
Wisdom
- You feel wise! You must have been very observant.
- You feel foolish! You haven't been paying attention.
Intelligence
- You feel smart!
- You feel stupid!
Charisma
- You feel charismatic!
- You feel repulsive!
Skill
- You feel more confident in your weapon skills. (You practiced a weapon skill enough and can now enhance it.)
- You feel more confident in your spell casting skills. (You practiced a spellcasting skill enough and can now enhance it.)
- You feel more confident in your fighting skills. (You practiced bare-handed combat, two-weapon combat or riding skill enough and can now enhance it.)
- You feel more confident in your skills. (You gained a skill slot, usually by gaining a level, and can now enhance a skill.)
- You feel you could be more dangerous! (After enhancing a skill, you can enhance skills further.)
Status
- You feel less confused now (No longer confused)
- You feel a bit steadier now (No longer stunned)
- You feel less trippy now (No longer confused, while hallucinating)
- You feel less wobbly now (No longer stunned, while hallucinating)
- You feel deathly sick. (You have contracted sickness from food poisoning or illness)
- You feel sick. (You narrowly avoided sickness from Food poisoning)
- You feel even worse. (Hit by a sickness attack when already sick, and your time to live is more than half of its old value)
- You feel much worse. (Hit by a sickness attack when already sick, and your time to live is less than half of its old value)
- You feel somewhat better.(Sickness timeout increased, but still sick)
- What a relief! (Sickness completely cured)
- You are feeling mildly nauseated. (Nauseated from eating a tripe ration while a non-orc, or a cursed tin, or a rotten egg.)
- You feel slightly confused. (Confused and/or stunned due to nausea)
- You feel much less nauseated now. (Vomited and are no longer nauseated after eating a tripe ration, rotten food, or cursed tin)
- You feel rather itchy under your mummy wrapping. (Attempted to become invisible while wearing a mummy wrapping)
- You feel like a glutton! (You are a knight, and ate while Satiated. Gluttony is unchivalrous.)
- You feel limber! (No longer being slowly petrified)
- You feel a change coming over you. (You are polymorphing from a eating a chameleon or doppelganger corpse, or stepping on a polymorph trap)
- You feel rather <monster>-ish. (You tried to polymorph into a monster form that has been genocided)
- You feel in good health again. (A prayer just restored one or more attributes that had been lowered by e.g. eating a poisoned corpse)
The following are associated with dungeon features:
- You feel a draft (Monster has tunneled through a secret corridor, or secret door detected on Rogue level)[1]
- You feel like enlisting/marching/protesting/fleeing (Hallucinating, Monster has tunneled through a secret corridor, or secret door detected on Rogue level)[2]
- You feel an unexpected draft (Monster has broken through a door)
- You feel like you are 1-A/4-F (Monster has broken through a door, you are hallucinating)
- You feel sluggish (Stepped on an anti-magic field while magic-resistant, and lost less than 1/4 of your HP)
- You feel momentarily lethargic (As above, before NetHack 3.6.0)
- You feel very lethargic (Stepped on an anti-magic field while magic-resistant, and lost at least 1/4 of your HP)
- You feel unbearably torpid! (Stepped on an anti-magic field while magic-resistant and were killed by the implosion)
- You feel rankled (You triggered a magic trap, which summoned monsters around you and hit you with magic vibrations while you are blind and deaf)
- You feel tired (One of the odd feelings from a magic trap)
- You feel [oddly] like the prodigal son (One of the odd feelings from a magic trap on the quest home level, 'oddly' if you are female.)
- You feel more claustrophobic than before (In a shop while a shop wall repairs itself, without seeing it happen)
- You feel momentarily different (Stepped on a polymorph trap but was unaffected)
- You feel like a new man/woman/elf/etc. (Stepped on a polymorph trap and polymorphed to your own race)
- You feel a wrenching sensation (Stepped on a teleport trap while magic resistant, or throne teleport)
- You feel a sudden chill (Quaffed or dipped into a fountain but no special effect triggered)
- You feel greedy (You read a scroll of gold detection and found gold on the level, or read the cursed scroll while confused and found gold or traps)
- You feel you are thoroughly on the right path (Sacrificed a differently-aligned unicorn at a co-aligned altar when alignment was at maximum)
- You feel a strange sensation. (You sat on a throne, which tried to vanish your money, but you have no money in your open inventory to lose.)
- You feel much, much better! (You sat on a throne, which fully restored your HP, possibly increased your maximum HP and cured blinding, sickness and wounded legs.)
- You feel your luck is changing. (You sat on a throne, which increased your luck by 1. Note that if your natural luck is high enough, guaranteed if positive, this effect is replaced with a wish.)
- You feel threatened. (You sat on a throne, which aggravated monsters.)
- You feel somehow out of place... (You sat on a throne, with no effect.)
- You feel very comfortable here. (You sat on a throne as a queen bee, gnome king, dwarf king or ogre king, with no effect.)
The following are associated with items or monsters:
- You feel better. (Potion of healing)
- You feel much better. (Potion of extra healing or HP recovery when praying)
- You feel completely healed. (Potion of full healing)
- You feel lackluster. (Cursed potion of gain energy)
- You feel a little strange. (Potion of polymorph)
- You feel a little normal. (Potion of polymorph while hallucinating)
- You feel a lack of something. (Potion of object detection, no objects on level)
- You feel rather tired. (Potion of sleeping)
- You feel a mild buzz (Gained max MP by eating a newt)
- You feel a wrenching sensation (Cursed spellbook teleports you)
- You feel somewhat dizzy (Being hit with a thrown potion of confusion or booze)
- You feel threatened (Uncursed potion of monster detection, but there was nothing to detect)
- You feel lonely (Blessed potion of monster detection, but there was nothing to detect)
- You feel charged up (Confused charging)
- You feel guilty (Reading blessed scroll of punishment, or eating non-vegetarian food as a monk, or killing a co-aligned unicorn)
- You feel guilty losing your pet like this. (Displaced pet into a trap, killing it)
- You feel like someone is helping you (Curse removed from inventory items, even if none of them were cursed)
- You feel shuddering vibrations (Polymorph pile of armor, corpses, gold or scrolls)
- You feel self-knowledgeable (Being enlightened)
- You feel rather light headed (Confusion caused by rotten food)
- You feel rather trippy (Confusion caused by rotten food while hallucinating)
- You feel giddy/like sitting in a corner (Trying on a dunce cap when your previous Intelligence was less than/greater or equal to 6.)
- You feel like you've been here before. (Entering a part of the dungeon that you have forgotten due to Scroll of amnesia or a successful brainsuck by a Mind flayer.)
- You feel as if you need some help - (Something in your inventory was cursed)
- You feel hemmed in! (Surrounded by many were-summons)
- You feel besieged. (Overcrowding in the endgame)
- You feel squirming in your backpack. (A troll/olog-hai corpse in your inventory regenerated.)
- You feel vibrations (A beam type wand was zapped, but it was blocked by a door out of sight).
- You feel full of awe. (Drank holy water while not a demon or undead)
- You feel quite proud of yourself. (Drank unholy water while Chaotic, a demon, or undead)
- You feel full of dread. (Drank unholy water while Lawful or Neutral)
- You feel vaguely nervous. (Message generated randomly after killing the Wizard of Yendor. No effect.)
- You feel feverish. (You have contracted lycanthropy from a werecreature.)
- You feel purified. (You have been cured of lycanthropy.)
- You feel worried about your <pet>. (Your pet is starving out of sight: confused from hunger, maximum hit points 25%, 250 more turns to live[3])
- You have a feeling of loss. (You attempted to charge something that can't be charged)
- You feel a strange sense of loss. (Hit by wand of cancellation and got an item cancelled, possible in SLASH'EM only)
- You suddenly feel weaker! (A monster tried drain strength and succeeded)
- You feel momentarily weakened. (A monster tried drain strength, but you have magic resistance)
- You feel a malignant aura surround you. (Random inventory items were cursed)
- You feel like an evil coward for using a poisoned weapon. (-1 alignment when lawful)
- You feel like a hypocrite. (You attacked while over an Elbereth engraving. This gives a -5 alignment penalty and makes the engraving disappear.)
- You feel rushing air tickle your nose. (You applied a Tin whistle while deaf.)
- You feel aggravated at the invisible [monster]. (The monster drank a cursed potion of invisibility, revealing its location to you.)
The following are associated with foocubus encounters:
- You feel good enough to do it again.
- You feel restored to health.
- You feel raised to your full potential.
- You feel down in the dumps.
- You feel exhausted.
- You feel drained of energy.
- You feel out of shape.
Miscellaneous:
- You feel dead inside. You genocided your original race or role while polymorphed into another.
- You feel disoriented for a moment. Your teleport or branchport failed. Frequently caused by the Amulet of Yendor.
