A droven cloak is a type of cloak that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It has a default material of cloth unless otherwise specified during generation, and it appears as a cobwebbed cloak when unidentified.
The droven cloak is the base item for three quest artifacts: The Web of the Chosen, the Darkweaver's Cloak and the Cloak of the Consort.
Generation
All drow heroes that are not Madpeople start the game with knowledge of droven cloaks, and several of them can start the game with one:
- Drow Anachrononaut women start each game with a +1 droven cloak.
- Drow Binders of both genders start each game with a +0 droven cloak.
- Drow Healers of both genders start each game with a blue +1 droven cloak.
- Drow Troubadours of both genders have their +1 cloak replaced with a droven cloak, while Drow Nobles of both genders have their +0 cloak replaced with a droven cloak.
- Any other drow hero that is not a Convict or a Madperson will start each game with a +0 droven cloak.
Drow Madpeople that open their quest box will regain their knowledge of the droven cloak.
Droven cloaks are very rare and make up 1⁄1000 (0.1%) of all armor that is randomly generated on the ground, in general shops or as death drops. Used armor dealerships and antique weapon outlets can also stock droven cloaks.
A tattered magic-resistant +3 droven cloak is generated within a sack placed near the center of the Drow Healer quest goal level during level creation.
Many drow and other monsters can be generated with droven cloaks:
- A'salom, the Hedrow Noble quest leader, is generated with a droven cloak.
- Mother, the female Drow Noble quest leader, is generated with a blessed, erosion-proofed +0 droven cloak.
- The sisters that act as the Drow Noble quest guardians are always generated with droven cloaks.
- Sister T'eirastra, the Drow Healer quest leader, is generated with a droven cloak.
- Driders and sprow generated on the home level of any drow-related quest other than the Drow Healer quest are created with cursed and erosion-proofed +3 droven cloaks.
- Y-cultist monsters always generate with thoroughly tattered droven cloaks.
- Drow matrons, drow matron-mothers, and yochlol generated in unearthly drow form are always generated with droven cloaks.
- Drow mummies, hedrow wizards, hedrow master-wizards, hedrow blademasters and driders are always generated with droven cloaks.
- Myrkalfar warriors always generate with non-cursed +2 or +3 droven cloaks.
- Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs created in the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) are always generated with cursed +5 magic-resistant droven cloaks.
- Mindless thralls always generate with cursed and thoroughly tattered droven cloaks that have an enchantment ranging from -1 to -3.
- Mendicant driders and mendicant sprow are always generated with blue droven cloaks.
- The Avatar of Lolth is always generated with a blessed, erosion-proofed +5 droven cloak.
- Other drow monsters not listed here will always generate with droven cloaks.
- Deminymphs can generate with droven cloaks as part of their role inventory under certain circumstances:
- Deminymphs that are generated on the Drow Healer quest outside of level creation and are given "drow healer" kits are always generated with blue droven cloaks.
- Deminymphs that are given "mad drow priestess" kits will always generate with a droven cloak that has an enchantment ranging from +1 to +3 and a 1⁄40 chance of being made into an artifact.
- Giant spiders and cave lizards have a 1⁄20 chance of generating with droven cloaks fitted to their body shape, while large cave lizards have a 11⁄100 chance of generating with fitted droven cloaks.
Description
While worn, a droven cloak covers the head and grants 0 base AC, 0 base DR, and MC3.
A hero applying a droven cloak can lay down webs on adjacent squares, which lowers the magic cancellation of the cloak by 1 and will cause the cloak to dissipate if it MC value reaches 0 this way—applying the cloak can also 'pick up' existing webs, which removes the web and restores the MC value of the cloak up to a maximum of 3.
