In NetHack, the letter K serves the following purposes:
- k represents a kobold:
- k kobold
- k large kobold
- k kobold lord
- k kobold shaman
- K represents a Keystone Kop:
Historical uses
In Hack 1.21 and Hack for PDP-11, which are based on Jay Fenlason's Hack, and from Hack 1.0 to NetHack 2.3e, killer bees used the k glyph, while kobolds used the K glyph. The Keystone Kop first appears in NetHack 1.3d, and from this version to NetHack 2.3e would appear using the K glyph in place of the kobold if the KOPS compile-time option was defined.
In NetHack 3.0.0, the other types of kobold are introduced, and all kobolds are moved to the k glyph, while killer bees are moved to the a glyph; the Keystone Kops' higher ranks are introduced, and the monsters retain the K glyph, though they remain a compile-time option.
