An anachrononaut:
| |
An anachrononaut, @, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The anachrononaut is a chaotic human player monster corresponding to the Anachrononaut hero: they will have the role's appropriate rank title for their monster level, and they can reach level 30 like heroes can.
An anachrononaut has two weapon attacks, with the second attack using any offhand weapons they have available. Like Anachrononaut heroes and other 'anachrononaut' monsters, they will gain intrinsic speed at a minimum of level 7. They boast skilled prowess in martial combat and have a full base attack bonus of +1.0 to-hit per monster level.
Generation
Anachrononauts are not generated randomly, and are normally created as peaceful towards chaotic heroes before specific adjustments are made. They are only a valid form for doppelgangers to polymorph into, and can only be targeted for genocide if an Anachrononaut hero reads a scroll of genocide—such a hero reading a cursed scroll while confused will instead create several anachrononaut player monsters adjacent to themselves.
Anachrononaut corpses can generate in graveyards, including those within the Valley of the Dead (as they are not normally placed on the level otherwise). Anachrononaut statues can generate in cockatrice nests and on Medusa's Island. An Anachrononaut hero killed by HP damage from a cockatrice or chickatrice, or else killed by any form of stoning, will leave a named anachrononaut statue behind containing their inventory rather than a named ghost and named corpse if a bones file is created. Statues and figurines of anachrononauts cannot be wished for by any means.
Live locations
Anachrononauts are one of the few player monster types that do not appear among the prisoners kept in throne rooms. They also do not appear among the hostile player monsters generated in the Binder quest, as they lack their own pantheon (which determines the player monsters that are sent to oppose the Binder hero in service of the gods).
Hostile anachrononauts can appear among the various player monsters placed on the Astral Plane during level creation.

Inventory
Anachrononauts are generated with varying types of equipment depending on whether they are slated for "good equipment" during monster creation:
- Anachrononauts slated for "good" equipment have a roughly equal probability of being given a lightsaber or a force pike as their weapon, with an arm blaster and frag grenades for ranged weaponry. For armor, they will be given a crystal shield, crystal plate mail, a bodyglove, a crystal helm, crystal gauntlets, crystal boots, and a cloak of magic resistance.
- Other anachrononauts will have a 1⁄4 chance of being given a force pike, and will otherwise receive a vibroblade—they are also given an assault rifle and bullets for their ranged weapon. For armor, they will be given a crystal shield, plasteel body armor, a flack helmet, plasteel gauntlets, and high boots.
Anachrononauts generated on the Astral Plane are subject to the same armor and weapon replacement odds as other player monsters.
