In NetHack, the letter T serves the following purposes:

Historical uses

In Hack 1.21 and Hack for PDP-11, based on Jay Fenlason's Hack, teleporters used the t glyph, while trolls used the T glyph. In Hack 1.0, the t glyph is given to the tengu, while the troll retains its glyph.

In NetHack 3.0.0, the tengu is moved to the imp or minor demon monster class, which uses the i glyph, while the trapper (formerly , is moved to the t glyph in its place alongside the lurker above. The troll still retains its glyph, and various other trolls are introduced.
