• w represents a worm:
  • w baby long worm
  • w baby purple worm
  • w long worm
  • w purple worm

• W represents a wraith:
  • W barrow wight
  • W wraith
  • W Nazgul

• Press w to wield a weapon.
• Press shift + w to wear armor.
• In wizard mode, press ctrl + w to wish for something.

Variants

Some variants of NetHack merge the ghost monster class into the wraith monster class for better visibility.

SLASH'EM

SLASH'EM adds several monsters that use the w and W glyphs:

• w worm:

AceHack

In AceHack, the ghost monster class is merged into the wraith monster class to make them more visible to players. This is also applicable to Nethack 4, NetHack Fourk and FIQhack.

In xNetHack, the ghost monster class is merged into the wraith monster class to avoid using punctuation for monster glyphs and make them more visible.
