In NetHack, the dot (or .), also known as a period or full stop, serves the following purposes:

  • Press . to rest and pass turns.
  • When an action prompts you for a direction, e.g. zapping a wand, press . to direct that action at yourself.
  • When an action prompts you to select a specific square on the map, press . to confirm your selection.
  • In menu, press . to select all items.
  • . can represent the following dungeon features:
