A yochlol, &, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The yochlol is a humanoid female major demon associated with the drow goddess Lolth that can shift into various forms:
- A stinking cloud, v
- An unearthly drow, @
- A demonic black widow, s
In all forms, yochlol are strong, amphibious and breathless and can be seen via infravision. They will seek out items to pick up, and can follow the hero to other floors if they are adjacent - tame yochlol may also turn traitor. The other attributes of yochlol depend on their current form:
- In her base demon form, a yochlol is amorphous. She has two tentacle attacks and a single-target studying gaze attack, and possesses fire resistance, poison resistance, drain resistance, and death resistance.
- In stinking cloud form, yochlol have a poisonous engulfing attack and a second engulfing attack, and possess sleep resistance, stoning resistance and sickness resistance in addition to their demon form's resistances.
- In unearthly drow form, they have a seduction-inducing bite, a weapon attack, and the ability to cast a clerical monster spell with five hit dice during each of their turns, and only possess sleep resistance, drain resistance and death resistance.
- In demonic black widow form, they have a blood-draining bite and two kick attacks that spread webs, and only possess poison resistance, drain resistance and death resistance.
Yochlol are poisonous to consume, which primarily comes up if they are digested by another monster or subjected to Ahazu.
Generation
Yochlol are only randomly generated in Gehennom, and randomly-generated yochlol are always hostile.
Yochlol do not leave a corpse upon death.
Origin
Yochlol are lesser demonic abominations from the Forgotten Realms D&D setting, known as the "Handmaidens of Lolth". They are natural shapeshifters that can take on oozing and gaseous forms, as well as arachnid and humanoid ones.
