Not to be confused with the dwarf noble monster in some NetHack variants.

In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, the dwarven Noble (or dwarf Noble) is a combination of race and role that is available to the hero, and it is one of the many Noble combinations to have a distinct skill set, Quest branch and set of artifact gifts—dwarven Nobles share many of their traits with dwarf Knights as well.

As dwarves, they will always start the game as lawful.

Starting equipment

Each dwarven Noble starts with the following equipment:

Any ring that is generated with an enchantment of +0 or lower is given a random enchantment from +1 to +3. All applicable starting equipment bears the seal of the hero's house.

Dwarven Nobles start with knowledge of all magical staves and all dwarven racial equipment.

Intrinsics

Dwarven Nobles gain the following intrinsic properties upon reaching the given experience levels:

Attributes

Dwarven Nobles have 75 points to distribute among their starting attributes, while descendant dwarven Nobles have -10 points for a total of 65 to distribute.

Rank titles

Dwarven Nobles are given their own rank titles on the status line for the corresponding experience levels, which are shared with dwarf Knights:

  • XL 1-5: Khuzd
  • XL 6-9: Felakgundu
  • XL 10-13: Azaghal
  • XL 14-17: Khuzdu-barak
  • XL 18-21: Khuzdu-ganad
  • XL 22-25: Khuzdu-kibil

Gods

Main article: Religion

The dwarven Noble's pantheon is much different from that of the usual Noble, and is shared with the dwarf Knight. Their first sacrifice gift is The Armor of Khazad-dum.

Abbathor acts as the vampiric unholy god for the pantheon, though this is not applicable outside of wizard mode.

The dwarven Noble's crowning title is always "the Lord of Moria", and their crowning gift will be Durin's Axe, an artifact axe.

Quest

Main article: Dwarf Noble quest

The dwarf Noble has a much different quest from other Nobles: the hero faces Durin's Bane for The War-mask of Durin, an artifact mask of a dwarf. While worn, The War-mask of Durin grants fire resistance, acid resistance, poison resistance, and half spell damage, and grants flat +5 to-hit and damage bonuses for axe weapons if the wearer is a dwarf.
