In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, the male drow Noble is referred to as the hedrow Noble, rarely as the drow Nobleman, and is abbreviated by the game as Nhd. Hedrow Noble is a combination of race and role that is available to the hero, and it is one of the many Noble combinations to have a distinct skill set, Quest branch and set of artifact gifts. Though they are drow, they will always start the game as neutral rather than being chaotic.

Female drow Nobles (or drow Noblewomen) are treated as radically different from hedrow Nobles, with their own article in the provided link.

Starting equipment

Each hedrow Noble starts with the following equipment:

Any ring that is generated with an enchantment of +0 or lower is given a random enchantment from +1 to +3. All applicable starting equipment bears the seal of the hero's house.

Hedrow Nobles start the game with knowledge of all droven racial equipment.

The hedrow Noble's default starting pet is a saddled small cave lizard.

Intrinsics

Hedrow Nobles gain intrinsic sleep resistance property upon reaching experience level 4, and do not gain any intrinsics from their role.

Attributes

Hedrow Nobles have 75 points to distribute among their starting attributes, while descendant hedrow Nobles have -10 points for a total of 65 to distribute.

The hedrow Noble's starting attributes are distributed as follows:

Attributes Strength Dexterity Constitution Intelligence Wisdom Charisma Remaining
Minimum attributes 10 10 7 10 7 7 24
Distribution percentages 20% 20% 15% 18% 10% 17%

Skills

Hedrow Nobles have most of the same skills available to them as other Nobles:

Hedrow Nobles start with Basic skill in bare-handed combat and whips. They use the intelligence stat to cast spells, and their role's special spell is protection, while their race's special spell is sleep.

Gods

Main article: Religion

The hedrow Noble's deities are derived from the drow deities of Dungeons & Dragons. Their first sacrifice gift is The Death-Spear of Keptolo, an artifact silver droven spear that favors hedrow Nobles.

The pantheon's crowning title and gift are dependent on the hero's alignment: lawful hedrow Nobles will be dubbed "the Blade of Ver'Tas" and given Liecleaver, neutral hedrow Nobles will be dubbed "the Hand of Keptolo" and given Lolth's Fang, and chaotic hedrow Nobles will be dubbed "the Hammer of Ghaunadaur" and given The Ruinous Descent of Stars.

Kiaransali serves as the unholy deity for vampire heroes that worship within the pantheon.

Quest

Main article: Hedrow Noble quest

The hedrow Noble has a different quest from other Nobles: the hero faces A'salom for The Cloak of the Consort, an artifact droven cloak. While carried, the Web of the Chosen grants cold resistance, and while worn it also grants half physical damage and drain resistance, and doubles the normal AC bonus given from its enchantment.
